Who We Are
Established in 2020, The American Friends of the University of Leicester (AFUoL) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, raising philanthropic funds for the University of Leicester. It is governed by a dedicated board of directors, the majority of whom are US citizens/permanent residents and who are independent members.
As a recognized US charity, AFUoL is an independent entity regulated by the IRS through which US taxpayers can make tax deductible donations, to the extent allowed by law.
Thanks to the support of the American Friends, the University has been able to support students, enhance research and create Citizens of Change.
What We Do
The AFUoL is thrilled to announce it will support the University of Leicester’s new, bold ambition to secure the next 100 years of change. With a clear focus on making a positive and transformational impact on our people, our planet, our culture and our health, the AFUoL is keen to secure much-needed philanthropic investment to tackle the many challenges facing our world today through the University.

In 2022, the AFUoL Board established the American Friends PhD Scholarship Award to support PhD students, especially those who study by Distance Learning or have an affiliation with the USA through their subject or location.
